As a child, Levar
Burton’s ground breaking show, Reading Rainbow, fostered a love for reading
that has never left my life. I viewed reading not as a chore but as a way to
view places I thought not possible to visit, understand how to become better at
my favorite hobbies and understand cultures that differed from mine.
Promoting the love of reading is one of the greatest gifts one
can give to a young mind. Reading opens the mind of children to provide
unlimited opportunities, stretches their imagination to new heights and expands
their knowledge of new information.
We have a responsibility to encourage our children to
develop a love for reading, but we cannot simply force this love upon children.
Our love for reading must be shown via our actions. Let’s show our kids by
reading for pleasure, cooking from family recipes, magazine subscriptions for
our favorite hobbies or actually using the how-to manual to assemble a new
gadget.
The upcoming Mississippi Reading Fair
is a great opportunity for children to showcase a book they loved reading. Students
are able to show off their favorite book via standard
tri-fold project board or via a digital platform within certain divisions. To view a complete packet on the guidelines
for the Reading Fair visit the MSDE
site or speak with your child’s teacher.
I am really excited to see all the
great books showcased at the upcoming Reading Fair. When you come to visit Inflatable Kingdom Kidz Zone to
celebrate a job well done I would love to see you presentations! See You Soon…
